KDA Policies

Studio Environment

The studio environment is focused on communication, respect, kindness, fairness, encouragement, support, discipline and attention to detail. We do not condone negative behavior and attitude from anyone associated with KDA. We are team players.

Please respect the studio, the KDA staff, fellow students, and yourself. If your behavior does not represent KDA’s Mission Statement, we will kindly ask you to depart from our community. You are a part of a dance and arts community now and we hold ourselves to the highest standard of positive, supportive attitudes. We aim to empower each other and our unique strengths.

If you are in any way associated with KDA, remember that you are representing yourself, your teachers and the studio. Please do not in-accurately represent KDA. Professionalism, kindness, cleanliness and organization are important to KDA for maintaining a well-run arts studio on the central coast.

If you want to discuss questions, inquiries, feedback, incidents, situations, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Irene at 805-268-2530 or email kleindancearts@gmail.com. Miss Irene is here with open ears and heart!

Studio Etiquette

Please arrive early and be ready to start class on time. Arrive and leave discreetly if you are late to class or leave early from class. It is disruptive to the class if you draw attention to yourself. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will be asked to sit and observe class. This is done in order to avoid injury after warmup has concluded. Please bring your own water bottle and dance shoes. Please no excessive talking, sitting, or chewing gum during class. Please NO food or drink in the studio spaces.

Studio Safety

Please be VERY aware of the moving cars in the parking lot. As you enter and exit the studio, the corner of our building has a blindspot. We do our best to place caution signs on the road, but please take personal caution when walking in the parking lot and keep your eye on your children when they are outside. Please do not walk outside by yourself in the dark. Safety is our number one priority! Please be careful in our lobby, studio and walking up the stairs. Please do not touch mirrors, as they are very fragile.

In the case of an evacuation, all KDA members will be walked across the street (Autopark Way) to the large open lot, next to the baseball field. This is where families can find their family members and be picked up.

Studio News & Updates

VERY IMPORTANT: We keep all students and families up-to-date with KDA news through our message service, “Remind.” Please download this app. If you do not begin to receive “Remind” messages shortly after you register with KDA, please let us know by texting 805-268-2530 and we will troubleshoot the issue.

Student Behavior

Please do not talk in dance class and be respectful to your teacher and peers. If a dancer is having difficulty listening to the teacher and not following directions, a “Dance Break” will be encouraged, which allows the teacher to bring the student into the lobby for a brief moment where their caregiver can talk discreetly about why they need to listen to their teacher in dance class. The dancer may re-enter the dance class when they are ready to follow directions again.

Guardian Behavior

Please respect students and teachers by giving them the space they need during their dance classes. You may not enter the dance studio unless given permission by the teacher. Please maintain a respectful attitude in relation to KDA inside and outside of KDA. Thank you :)

Class Attendance

Please sign in student's full name before each class.

Class Protocol

If one student attends a group class, the class will be held at half of the duration listed. The student and/or caretaker may also decide if they’d like to save the class and use as a makeup class for another time, instead of having a private lesson. If two students attend class, the class may or may not be held for a shorter duration than listed, depending on students’ attention span.

Class Makeup Policy

If you miss a group class, you do not lose the class. If you miss a private lesson, please be aware of your teacher’s private lesson cancellation fee. You may makeup the group class during another time on the weekly schedule that is for the same age group. You do not necessarily have to attend another class of the same category to makeup for a missed class. You can try a different dance style or tumbling class as a makeup class. If you absolutely cannot attend any other group class on the schedule, we will credit two missed classes for one 20-minute private lesson with Miss Irene. Makeup classes are good for one month before they expire. KDA does not credit missed classes towards the next month of tuition.

Student Sickness Courtesy

If a student is under the weather, they must stay home and rest. This allows the student to recover faster and refrain from passing any sickness around. You will not lose the class missed due to sickness. It will turn into a makeup class you can use within one month of purchase.

Student Injuries

KDA staff will prevent injury to the best of their ability and knowledge, but please be aware that physical activity always presents a risk of injury. You are taking class at your own risk. If a student is injured, it is strongly advised to have them stay home and rest. This allows the student to recover faster. You will not lose the class missed due to injury. It will turn into a makeup class you can use within one month of purchase.

Attendance Conflicts

We strongly recommend that parents schedule their children’s doctor appointments, vacations, or any activity before or after a KDA class. KDA aims to give everyone a joyful, consistent experience into the world of the arts. Thank you so much for your understanding. Our studio cannot thrive without your cooperation.

Family Support and Participation

Support from family and friends is vital to the success of every student’s growth and confidence. We encourage families to be involved with KDA and our special events. We love seeing families follow the journey of our students and learn alongside them. We encourage the families of young students to practice class work at home with them. It will create consistency when students come back to weekly class.

Teachers and Substitute Teachers

We aim to have our regularly scheduled teachers instruct classes consistently every week, but please be aware that due to most of our teachers being working artists in the performing arts industry, substitute teachers will step in to teach classes from time to time. Substitute teachers will also step in when a regularly scheduled teacher is sick or has an important event conflict. We support our teachers in their careers and encourage all artists to experience opportunities that increase their skills and ultimately, bring the skills they have gained back to KDA and share with others. We ask students and families to be understanding of adjustments and take the opportunity to learn from different teachers.
